Teen Die Meer is a lakeside retreat on Chrissiesmeer, about 7 km from the town. Self-catering chalets, safari tents and a campsite sit on the shore of South Africa's largest freshwater lake.
Chrissiesmeer holds barbel and carp. Bank fishing is available from the campsite and chalet areas. Bring your own rods, bait and tackle. Swimming, canoeing and kayaking are also popular on the lake. Confirm fishing rules with the venue before you visit.
Teen Die Meer has self-catering wooden chalets, equipped safari tents, group safari tents and open campsites on the lake shore. Most units have a private braai area. Solar lighting is used on some units, with limited 220V plugs on others. The campsite has borehole water, 26 electrical points and communal ablutions with hot showers. A shared kitchen has a gas stove. The resort is on gravel after the N17 turn-off, about 3.6 km from the tar road. Camping was about R70 per site per night plus R70 per person per night in 2023 for guests aged 8 and older. Chalet and tent unit rates are not published. Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve sits on the Komati River about 10 km northwest of Carolina. The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency manages this 3 000 hectare Highveld reserve around the dam. Anglers fish for bass, carp, and barbel. Camping and log cabins are available.
