Nooitgedacht Dam Nature Reserve sits on the Komati River about 10 km northwest of Carolina. The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency manages this 3 000 hectare Highveld reserve around the dam. Anglers fish for bass, carp, and barbel. Camping and log cabins are available.
Nooitgedacht Dam holds bass, carp, and barbel on the Komati River system. The reserve lists fishing and boating as core activities. Bank anglers fish the grassy shoreline bays. Boat anglers can launch on the dam when the venue allows. A valid South African freshwater fishing licence is required. Papgooi works for carp and barbel. The reserve covers about 3 000 hectares of Eastern Highveld grassland around Nooitgedacht Dam. Game such as blesbok, springbok, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, zebra, reedbuck, oribi, and buffalo roam the veld. Birding, self-guided game drives, cycling, camping, and log cabins are listed. The dam is a Komati River impoundment used for power generation. Shoreline camping sites and outsourced log cabins sit near the water. Gate entry and camping fees apply. Highveld summers are mild. Winters are cold and dry. Conservation entry is about R64 per adult and R37 per child for SA residents on the current MTPA tariff. Camping is about R155 per person per night, inclusive of entry.
