Belfast Dam is the large municipal dam on the edge of Belfast in Mpumalanga. The open water holds bass, carp, and trout. It is a public dam in the Highlands Meander trout country.
The fishing
Belfast Dam is the biggest water body near Belfast town. It covers more than 200 acres. Largemouth bass are common in the open water. Trout can show in cooler inflow areas when a stream feeds the dam. Carp are also present. Fly fishing and conventional bank fishing both work. The dam has been used for championship practice sessions. Access is by dirt roads from the Belfast side. Confirm fishing rules and access with the municipality before you visit.

Staying at Belfast Dam
Belfast Dam sits just north of Belfast on the Mpumalanga highveld. The dam wall and spillway sit on the west side. Open grassland and rocky hills surround the basin. The town of Belfast is a short drive south with shops and fuel. This is a day venue on public municipal water. There is no lodge or campsite on the dam itself. Nearby Belfast has guest farms and trout waters run by clubs, but those are separate venues. Bring your own tackle, food, and shade.
