Mpumalanga, Dullstroom
Treeferns Trout Lodge sits between Belfast and Dullstroom on a historic farm with spring-fed trout dams. Seven stone self-catering cottages overlook the water. Fly fish for rainbow and brown trout, or stay for a quiet highveld break.
Eleven spring-fed dams hold rainbow and brown trout. The water stays cool year round from natural springs. Trout feed on aquatic life and stay wild and eager. Fly fishing is the main draw. Rod fees apply per angler per stay. You may keep fish at a per-kilo fee.
Seven stone cottages sleep couples, families, and groups. Most units overlook the dams. Each cottage has a kitchen, lounge, fireplace, and outdoor braai on the stoep. The original 1908 farmhouse adds extra character. Pets are welcome. Hiking trails, bird watching, mountain biking, and clay-pigeon shooting are on the farm. Sunset picnics beside the dams are a favourite. Check-in is from 11:00 to 19:00 and check-out is at 10:00. Self-catering cottages start from about R2 400 per night for two guests. Rod fees are about R300 per angler per stay. Confirm the price with the venue before you book. Last updated at: 19 September 2026.
