Aston Lake is a managed carp dam on the edge of Springs in Gauteng. The venue has a boom gate, open bank stands, and day or overnight fishing.
The dam holds carp, barbel, and bass. Most anglers fish papgooi from the open bank. The water is shallow and wind can push from the north east. Cast one rod at 30 to 50 m and a second at 90 to 115 m. Spots near the dam wall and the left bank are popular. Barbel in the 1 to 5 kg range are common. Confirm the rules with the venue.
Aston Lake sits off the N17 east of Springs, past the Springs Mall turnoff. Follow Anchor Road, then the gravel farm road to the boom gate. Entry is controlled at a manned office. The gate opens at 06:00 and closes at 18:00. Weekends are busy, so arrive early if you want a good stand. You can fish for the day or camp overnight on the bank. Stands are open grass with space for a tent or trailer. Ablutions are on site. A tap with fresh water sits at the gate. Basic tackle and bait are sometimes sold near the entrance. Kids are welcome. Confirm whether pets are allowed before you visit. A day ticket is about R50 per angler. Overnight camping is about R90 per angler. Confirm the price with the venue before you book.
