Free State, Kroonstad, Bloemhoek Dam
Bloemhoek Dam is the main municipal reservoir east of Kroonstad in the Free State. The open water on Jordaan Spruit holds carp and mudfish. Anglers fish the sandy banks on this public supply dam.
Bloemhoek Dam is an earth-fill dam on the Jordaan Spruit in the Vals River system. The basin covers about 370 hectares. Carp are the main target. Mudfish also show on the banks. Water grass can make some spots tricky. Bank fishing with papgooi rigs is the usual approach. There is no formal fishing lodge on the municipal water. Confirm access points and rules with the municipality before you visit.
Bloemhoek Dam sits about 4 km east of Kroonstad. Smallholdings and farm plots line parts of the shore. The dam wall sits on the west side of the basin. Open sand banks and scattered trees give basic bank access. There are no public toilets, ablutions, or shops at the dam. This is a day venue on municipal water. There is no campsite or chalet on the dam itself. Private lodges on the shore are separate venues with their own booking. Bring your own tackle, shade, and water.
