Koppies Dam Nature Reserve is a DESTEA provincial reserve on Koppies Dam near the town of Koppies. Stay in wooden chalets or camp on the shore and fish for carp, barbel, and yellowfish.
Koppies Dam holds carp, barbel, yellowfish, and mudfish. The reserve covers 4 300 hectares of Highveld veld on the Renoster River system. Bank anglers use papgooi setups on the six kilometre shoreline. A slipway serves boat anglers. Confirm angling rules and permits with the venue before you visit.
The reserve lies 16 km east of Koppies and 85 km north of Kroonstad, just off the N1. Road signs lead from the highway to the gate. Sweet thorn thickets and mixed grassveld surround the dam. Many bird species live here, including waterfowl. Ten four-sleeper chalets are fully equipped with DSTV. A caravan park has twelve power points. More caravan stands sit along the shoreline without power. Six ablution blocks and braai sites serve campers. A tent camp has five equipped tents for up to twelve people. A boating area has a slipway and sheltered braai facilities. No shop is on site. Bring your own food and braai wood. Gate hours are 06:00 to 18:00 daily, with Friday and Saturday open until 20:00. The office is open 07:30 to 16:00. Day visitors and overnight guests are welcome. Camping, chalet, and angling fees apply. Confirm the price with the venue before you book.
