Troutbagger Farm sits between Mount West and Curry's Post in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. Three private dams hold trophy rainbow and brown trout, with bass in one dam. Self-catering cottages and rooms overlook the water.
Three still-water dams sit on the farm. All hold trout. One dam also holds bass. Fishing is catch and release. Barbless hooks are required. Straight leaders of at least 10 lb are recommended. Tandem or dropper rigs and egg-pattern flies are not allowed. Night fishing is not allowed. Rods and tackle can be hired on site. Trophy fish to about 7.4 kg trout and 6 kg bass have been recorded.
The farm is about 12 km from Nottingham Road and 4 km from the N3 at exit 132. Gary and Shirley Maas run the venue. Gary is a Springbok angler and offers guided trout and bass trips on nearby waters. Accommodation is self-catering. Two three-bedroom cottages and one two-bedroom cottage sit near the dams. Two double rooms with kitchenettes are also available. Braai facilities are at each unit. DSTV and WiFi are available. Guided farm walks can be arranged. Day fishing is about R350 per angler. Cottage guests fish for about R200 per angler per day.
