Gauteng, Pretoria North
Lock Nest Dam is a private carp water just north of Pretoria. Five swims sit on flat grass banks with built-in braais and reed margins.
The dam is about 3 hectares with reed beds and grass patches across most of the bank. Five swims are set out on open grass. Swim 1 faces the dam wall at about 4.5 m deep. Swims 2 to 5 sit in front of the main house with a small jetty and a bay that holds bigger fish at times. Carp to about 15 kg have been caught here, with koi in the margins. Bass and barbel are also present. Tigers, hemp, and maize work well for carp. Specimen carp tactics suit this water.
Lock Nest suits small groups who want to fish and braai together. Flat grass areas let you camp close to your rods. Built-in braai spots are on the angling bank. A small jetty sits on the main swim section. Booking is essential. The venue suits day sessions or overnight camping with mates. Kids fish here too. Day and camping rates are not published. Confirm the price with the venue before you book. Last updated at: 11 September 2026.
