Bassbay is a fishing camp on Soutpan Road in Haakdoringboom, about 15 minutes north of Pretoria. The dams hold bass, carp, barbel and kurper. Day visits and camping are both welcome.
The venue focuses on bass and lure angling on the main dams. A separate area is set aside for carp fishing. Lily pads and reeds line much of the bank. Small boats with petrol or electric motors are allowed. Float tubes work well from the slipway. Papgooi suits the carp swims. Confirm the rules for each section with the venue before you fish.
Bassbay sits in a quiet valley off the M35, just before the road bends toward Haakdoringboom. Shaded shelters and a gazebo give anglers cover on hot days. Ablutions include flushing toilets and basins. The site is kept clean and feels safe for families. You can fish for the day or camp overnight on the bank. Arrive early on busy weekends to secure a sheltered spot. Kids are welcome and often catch carp from the bank. Day entry is about R50 per adult. Camping fees are not listed publicly. Confirm the price with the venue before you book. Last updated at: 23 August 2026.
