Lake Heron is a game and trout farm in the Elandskloof valley about 19 km from Dullstroom. Three self-catering cottages sit between two stocked trout dams for fly fishing guests.
Two dams sit about 500 m apart on the farm. Both hold rainbow and brown trout on a catch-and-release basis. All angling is fly fishing with barbless hooks. Fishing is for staying guests at the cottages. Confirm day access and rod rules with the venue before you visit.
Lake Heron lies in Elandskloof about 19 km from Dullstroom village, roughly 2.5 hours from Johannesburg. Three self-catering cottages sleep couples or small groups. Maly Fisher is a cosy two-sleeper. Stary-Krowa and San-Solina suit larger groups. Units have king beds, fireplaces, braais, and lake or farm views. One cottage is pet friendly by prior owner approval. The farm is game fenced with eland, wildebeest, fallow deer, and other highveld game often seen near the dams in the early morning. A clay pigeon shooting range suits beginners and regular shooters. Wood for the first night is included. Extra wood is for sale on request. Rates are quoted on enquiry by email or phone.
