Dunkeld Country and Equestrian Estate sits on 80 Tonteldoos Road outside Dullstroom in Mpumalanga. The estate has more than twenty stocked trout dams, hotel rooms, self-catering cottages, and an equestrian centre.
Rainbow trout live in more than twenty stillwater dams on the estate. The dams sit against the Steenkampsberg mountains and are stocked year-round from the on-site trout hatchery. Fly fishing is the main method. Float tubing is allowed. Rods and reels are available for hire and flies are sold on site. Day visitors can buy a fishing permit at reception. Fly fishing lessons are R220 per person for 30 minutes when booked with reception. Catch-and-release is the policy, but distressed fish may be kept. Confirm rod fees, bag limits, and dam access with the venue before you visit.
Dunkeld is about three hours from Johannesburg or Pretoria on the R540. Choose from a country hotel, self-catering chalets and cottages, or equestrian estate villas and lodges.
