Klipfontein Dam is a public irrigation dam on the White uMfolozi River near Vryheid in northern KwaZulu-Natal. The basin holds bass, carp, and barbel. Much of the shoreline is open grass and reed beds.
Klipfontein Dam holds largemouth bass, carp, and barbel. Bank anglers fish papgooi setups on the grassy shoreline and reed edges. Bass anglers also work after dark when access is allowed. Boats are uncommon on this basin. Confirm access points, permits, and catch rules with the water authority before you visit.
Klipfontein Dam sits on the White uMfolozi River west of Vryheid in the Zululand highveld. The Department of Water and Sanitation owns the dam for irrigation supply. The basin feeds from the Besterspruit catchment. This is public dam water, not a private fishing resort. There is no formal campsite or day-ticket office on the dam wall. Bring your own tackle, food, and safety gear. Nearby farm land and the Mooiplaas area sit on parts of the shoreline. Day fishing permits and access fees are not published for casual anglers.
