You fish the Wilge River from an open farm bank. Yellowfish, carp, barbel and mudfish live in this water. Willow trees hang over the river. Bring your own gear. You may bring a canoe or a kayak. Confirm the fishing rules with the venue.
Aanleg Caravan Park is on Aanleg guest farm next to the Wilge River. Drive the R34 north from Frankfort towards Vrede for about 5 km. Turn right at the Aanleg sign. The last 1.7 km is gravel. Camp stands sit on grass under oak trees. Each stand has a braai and an electric point. A borehole tap is within 10 metres. Two ablution blocks share hot and cold water, basins and toilets. There are about 9 to 11 stands. Each stand takes up to 5 people. A self catering cottage sleeps 6. It has two bedrooms, a bath, a lounge and a kitchen. The main farm house offers bed and breakfast. Children of all ages may stay. You can walk to a replica British blockhouse from 1901. Birds and small game live on the farm. The river bank is high, so swimming is not practical. Camping is about R150 a night for 2 adults. Extra people cost more. Bed and breakfast is about R700 a night for 2 adults. Confirm the price with the venue before you book.
