Free State, Vrede, Vrede Dam
Emanzini Resort sits on the banks of Vrede Dam in the eastern Free State, about two hours from Johannesburg. Waterfront camping, chalets, and day fishing make it a family dam getaway.
Vrede Dam holds carp, bass, and barbel. Anglers fish from open grassy banks and wooden decks along the shoreline. Boats can launch from the resort slipway when you have a valid skipper licence. Papgooi works well on the dam. Confirm the rules with the venue.
The resort has about 40 caravan and tent sites, with many on the waterfront under pine trees. Self-catering wooden chalets, thatch units, cabanas, and camping cabins sleep from two to eight guests. Facilities include a swimming pool with a baby splash pool, a children's playground, a pub, a function hall, and a party lapa. Day visitors can fish and picnic on the dam from 08:00 to 17:00. Waterfront camping is about R500 per night for up to four people. Day visitors pay about R120 per person. Wooden chalets start from about R1200 per night.
