Mpumalanga, Bushbuckridge, Injaka Dam
Injaka Dam is a large DWS irrigation dam on the Ngwaritsane River near Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga. The basin holds largemouth bass, carp, and barbel in flooded timber and weed beds. Competitive bass trails use the water under permit.
Injaka Dam covers about 811 ha on the Ngwaritsane River north of Hazyview. Largemouth bass are the main sport fish. Carp and barbel also occur. Submerged trees, stumps, lily pads, and bridge pylons give heavy cover across the basin. Boat fishing is common in tournaments. Shore access is limited and often needs prior arrangement at the dam wall. Papgooi and lure fishing both work when access is granted. Confirm permits and access with the water authority before you visit.
Injaka Dam sits in bushveld hills about 25 km north of Hazyview and east of Bushbuckridge. The earth-fill wall was completed in 2001. The Department of Water and Sanitation owns and operates the dam for irrigation. There is no formal campsite, lodge, or day-ticket office on the shoreline. This is public dam water, not a private fishing resort. Bass clubs and trails host permit tournaments on the water. Informal bank fishing by local communities happens in places. Guest houses in the wider Bushbuckridge area are separate venues. Bring your own boat, tackle, food, and safety gear when access is approved.
