Western Cape, Bellville, Door De Kraal Dam
Door De Kraal Dam is a suburban dam in Bellville near Durbanville. It is the only City of Cape Town dam in the northern suburbs where controlled angling is allowed. Bass and carp are the common catches.
Door De Kraal Dam sits between Door de Kraal, Kenridge and Tyger Valley. Reed beds line much of the bank. Largemouth bass and carp are the main species. Bank angling works from the open shoreline. Small boats and float tubes are sometimes used. Catch-and-release is encouraged. You need a valid CapeNature freshwater angling licence and a City permit. Confirm current rules and seasons with the venue before you visit.
Door De Kraal Dam is a public open space managed by the City of Cape Town Recreation and Parks Department. Picnic lawns and a circular walking path ring the water. Bird life is strong around the reeds. The dam sits across from Willowbridge and is an easy after-work spot from the northern suburbs. This is a day-visit dam. There is no camping on site. Angling has run on a limited seasonal permit since 2007. Other nearby City dams such as Rosendal and Sonstraal remain no-fishing zones. A local angling permit was about R124 in past years. CapeNature licence fees apply separately. Confirm current permit prices and open seasons with the venue before you book. Last updated at: 6 September 2026.
