The Border Post is a bed and breakfast and coffee shop at the top of Oliviershoek Pass near Bergville. The restored 1936 farmhouse has seven ensuite rooms with garden views over the Northern Drakensberg and Sterkfontein Dam.
Sterkfontein Dam borders the Windmill Farm on the northern boundary. The dam holds carp, barbel, bass, and yellowfish, with clear water suited to sight fishing. Driekloof Dam is also nearby. The Border Post does not sell fishing day tickets or pegs on site. Anglers use public dam access and reserve permits separately.
Seven ensuite rooms sit on the ground floor of the restored farmhouse. Each room has tea and coffee facilities, garden views, and a full breakfast included. A private guest lounge with a fireplace is for overnight guests. The coffee shop and tea garden serve breakfast, light lunches, and tea time treats for day visitors. Paul and Marisa Ellis run the Border Post with an on-site team. The property sits on Windmill Farm at the KwaZulu-Natal and Free State border on the R74. Hiking, horse riding, mountain biking, and kitesurfing on Sterkfontein Dam are popular in the area. Bed and breakfast from about R695 per person sharing or R800 single.
