Stompies Oord is a camping and fishing resort on Stompdrift Dam near De Rust in the Klein Karoo. Camp on the high-water mark, fish for carp, bass and barbel, or visit for a day braai by the water.
Stompdrift Dam holds a large carp population plus bass, barbel and other species. Stompies Oord sits on the dam shore with open bank access for day visitors and campers. Papgooi works well for carp and barbel. Bring your own rods and bait. Boat fishing is allowed with a nightly boat fee. Confirm the rules with the venue before you fish.
Stompies Oord has 24 lawn camp sites on three terraces at the high-water mark of Stompdrift Dam. Each site has its own fire pit. Built ablutions with hot showers and safari ablutions with cold showers are on site. Day visitors can braai and fish from 07:00 to 17:00. Campers can bring tents, caravans and boats. The dam is popular for kayaking, swimming and water sports in season. Pensioners get a 25% concession on published rates. Camping is about R400 per stand per night for up to six people and two vehicles. Day visitors pay about R65 per person and R70 per vehicle. Confirm the price with the venue before you book.
