Donaldson Dam Bottom Lake is a renowned specimen carp venue on the West Rand near Westonaria. The dam has 23 numbered swims, a manned security gate, and catch-and-release rules for carp.
Bottom Lake holds large common and mirror carp, barbel, largemouth bass, and kurper. Twenty-three prepared swims line the bank, including jetty swims and the inlet reed section. Specimen carp and papgooi both work here. Catch and release applies to carp. A valid Gauteng inland angling permit is required. Book your swim before you visit.
Donaldson Dam sits next to Bekkersdal on the Wonderfonteinspruit. The bottom lake is open to day visitors and overnight anglers. Basic ablutions remain on site. A security company guards the entrance gate. The top lake is a separate members-only syndicate and is not part of public bottom-lake bookings. Swim bookings are recorded at reception. The venue is popular and swims fill fast on weekends. Bring your own gear and bait. Exercise caution near the water and fish with company when possible. Swim and gate fees are not published.
